Simon Innes (WA)

The Nationals Working Party is pleased to announce Simon has accepted an appointment for our Nationals event next year. Simon is the man behind our online agility entries program (OARS – more exciting news about that coming soon!) he’s an IT guru, baseball coach, running fan, Agility judge, handler, and fan of dogs in general. He’s currently owned by a Golden Retriever, a couple of Border Collies, and a small terrier x named Lucy.

Simon’s words:
Current competing dogs: Chidlow Pippa (Working Border Collie)
How you started Agility: I had a new Golden Retriever pup and wanted to do something cool with him. We went down to a training night at ACWA as soon as he was old enough for puppy classes and we were hooked
When you became a judge: I was part of the judges course in Perth that ran in 2015 and received my first judging appointment in May 2017
Where you have judged: I haven’t made it out of WA, but I’ve had the pleasure to judge for all of our metro clubs as well as Bunbury and Albany
Most Memorable Judging Appointments: One of my favourites was judging for the Albany All Breeds Dog Club in late 2018. It’s a really nice country trial that runs with a single ring and me and my wife took turns judging throughout the day. I remember judging a Novice Jumping course that turned out some of the best novice runs I’ve ever seen, and that was topped off with everyone else watching and cheer for every clear round. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and was a great reminder of why I love the sport.
What you love most about judging: Judging gives me the ability to set challenges for handler/dog teams, then I get the best seat in the house to watch them run. I love setting a course based on how I’d run it, then seeing the creative and better ways people come up with for getting it done.
